This week was pretty normal, thankfully, and didn’t involve any doctors or bathrooms! So let’s take a peek at the week:
WEEKEND
Nana and Papa came over to visit on Saturday and Big Bro had a good friend come over on Sunday after church. I would say that Ala feels right at home with Nana, wouldn’t you?
Monday
Little Bro and his friend “B” experimenting with physics this morning
Reading fun for the two boys
Here’s Big Bro and Papa working on middle school listening activities…it was actually quite challenging but they both enjoyed it! Basically, I read instructions for the individual steps and they had to follow but I wasn’t allowed to repeat the directions or help in any way. Definitely a skill that any man (yes, I did say that) could benefit from
Story time at lunch with Papa Taking advantage of the nicer weather out back
Here we are following up on Big Bro’s unit on Ancient Egypt by making a death mask.
This was so incredibly funny and I was so lucky to have captured it on film! At one point during the process, Little Bro leaned down and blew into the straw that Big Bro was using to breathe (his nostrils were open as well) from. You can tell by Big Bro’s hands below that the incoming air was quite unexpected! After a good laugh, we explained how breathing works to Little Bro who was really wanting to try this again. Working on painting mask days later. It is now hanging in our schoolroom.
TUESDAY
Little Bro was super excited to find out that Tiny Tots was beginning again today! Check out the happy face!
To make it even sweeter, “B” is there and he loves his teacher (B’s mom, Ms. Dona)! So he gets to go and hang out with his friends and do cool things for an hour and forty-five minutes twice a week. Not bad!
While Little Bro was away, Big Bro was introduced to working with positive and negative integers. We used poker chips to demonstrate the concept….worked like a charm!
Some fun extracurricular items to go along with Ancient Egypt…several educational shows from the TV I’ve recorded over the past six+ months for upcoming lessons. So we’ve been sprinkling these shows out on the weekend or periodically in the evening. Then a fun “Toob” workbox with items he’s learned about during his school time.
These we didn’t all receive today but am excited to share my new toys. I’ve signed up for an assortment of items I’ve seen come around on the Internet/homeschool world. Here is a sampling of some I’ve received in the past couple months:
from NASA love this one!!! the entire collection of the series played this summer
neat P.E. lessons/activities in this box more info and posters from NASA
Reading with Papa…he said at dinner that having Papa go home was his low!! How sweet is that! The boys do love their Nana and Papa for sure!
Big Bro enjoying our change of weather while listening to a book on CD for fluency.
Tried something a little fun for lunch today…a ghost grilled cheese sandwich. The boys thought it was neat and gobbled it up!
The boys are checking out my real cartouche Nana had made for me when we lived in Germany. They thought it was cool that my name was on the other side in English and in hieroglyphics on the other.
WEDNESDAY
The boys favorite day of the week…co-op day! Here’s Little Bro learning to jump rope.
We sit next to a tree perfect for climbing and I caught these shots of Little Bro! So cute!
Lunch with our friends. So glad to have met them last spring when we first tried kickball.
Story time about spiders and now making the Itsy Bitsy Spider and her water spout.
Silliness.
Now weaving a web for his spider…nice job.
THURSDAY
Our every afternoon staple…swimming. I love this photo of Big Bro getting his swim on! I get to visit on Wednesday afternoons…one of only 2 days I’m not tutoring in the afternoon. I’m so lucky to have met a great gal there to visit with on those days! Hi, April! And Big Bro really enjoys hanging out with her son during and after class as well.
After swim today we headed to the mall so he could pick out a new pair of glasses and renew his prescription after our appointment with his eye doctor a week or so ago. He ended up picking the red frames and we love them! He looks so smart…thankfully he has the brains to go with the looks, too.
Letter Dd board for Little Bro
Daddy and Little Bro prepping for a science experiment on energy. Here they are using a spool, rubber band, toothpick and rulers to determine its kinetic and potential energy. Thanks Daddy for always pitching in for math and science!! You rock (pun intended)!
The swimmer got a new rash guard at the mall last night so he was modeling it for us.
FRIDAY
It was such lovely weather we all decided to do our lessons (including Daddy) on the back patio today. Big Bro was doing his FLVS lesson while Little Bro and I finished up letter Dd. First we reviewed letters A-C by having him place objects in the correct pile according to it’s beginning sound.
Couldn’t resist these cute face shots!
Even Ala decided to join us under Big Bro’s feet. Even in the experiment above, she was wandering around them like a shark.
Big Bro hard at work…right??? Dd—dots for our alphabet book
Creating a dolphin by copying my model…no help from me and I think he did a great job!! He’s adding some kelp in and a sun in the sky, too!
Yeah! Nana’s hard work (a shout out for Nana!!) paid off and we were ready to mail out our postcards for the United States postcard swap. Woo hoo! Here’s what we added to the back for our recipients to read.
Until next week,
Crystal
